The university’s main campus is located in Poitiers with 22,000 students studying either in the city center or on campus. The city thus has the highest proportion of students (in relation to the total population) of all university cities, making it one of the most “studenty” cities in France!
The University of Poitiers benefits from the city’s rich history and heritage. The university has private mansions from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries (Aubaret, Berthelot, Chaboureau, Fumé) where courses are still held today. The Presidency of the University of Poitiers is also located in the city center at the Hôtel Pinet. A stone’s throw from the media library and the city’s busy streets, students enjoy a privileged living environment in the city center of Poitiers.

The main location of the University of Poitiers, the Poitiers campus, is located to the east of the city, 13 minutes from the city center by bus. It includes some forty buildings housing a large part of the university’s teaching and research activities. The Poitiers campus, with its numerous green and wooded areas, boasts a high quality of life. Faced with the challenge of developing an eco-campus, the University of Poitiers has embarked on an in-depth transformation of the site to invent a new living environment with new spaces (landscaping, development of sports and recreational paths, setting up of lively areas, etc…). The university also promotes motor-free mobility with the development of cycling paths and the installation of numerous cycle parking and car-sharing spaces.

Les services :
Every year, the French magazine l’Etudiant publishes its annual list of the cities’ hotspots for students. Poitiers ranks 2nd in its category (large cities). It is one of the few cities of this size to compete with the main cities. In the overall ranking, Poitiers is in 12th place.
Among the criteria selected by L’Étudiant Magazine, training, student life and the living environment are the main strengths of Poitiers. Based on these criteria alone, it moved up to 5th place in the ranking for all cities combined, ahead of Toulouse, Lyon, Strasbourg and Bordeaux.
Among the strengths of Poitiers, should be noted:
Poitiers is located in an enviable location, 90 minutes from the sea. Easy to access, the city is located halfway along the Paris-Bordeaux axis. A land of convergence, exchange and crossbreeding, Poitiers plays an important role at the international level.
Rightly known as the “city of 100 spires”, Poitiers offers spectacular monuments and Romanesque churches but also picturesque medieval streets or half-timbered houses: such a medieval atmosphere!
Poitiers also boasts a dynamic and eclectic cultural life, evidenced by a Theater of Poitiers (called the TAP), located in the heart of the city, which completes the many activities scheduled all year round (theater, concerts, dance shows, contemporary circus…). Various national and international events are also organized each year, including the Henri Langlois cinema festival, the street arts festival “Les expressifs” and many others!

Another defining feature of Poitiers is the abundance of parks and green space, which are a breath of fresh air where the inhabitants like to go and recharge their batteries, walk around, enjoy the landscape with a book in hand or, for the bravest, admire it by doing a little jogging in the morning. Often considered as “the smallest of the big cities”, Poitiers offers all the services of a big city while maintaining a high quality of life.
In the center of Poitiers, the CROUS has two restaurants: the RU Roche d’Argent and the 1873. A food truck (Crous Truck) and a new restaurant the 1430 are also available at the University Presidency near the University Music and Dance Hall.
On campus, you have four restaurants at your disposal as well as cafeterias in several university colleges or departments (Medicine, Law and Social Sciences, Literature and Languages, Student Union).
All information (addresses, schedules, menus…) are available on the CROUS website.
If you need information, if you can’t find a place, if you want information about campuses and student life, feel free to visit the Student Union on campus, you will be welcomed from Monday to Thursday from 9am to 9pm and on Friday until 5pm.
