The Maison des Etudiants (Students’ House) : a place to discover

The Student House is a place for meetings, cultural activities and music for students and student associations, it is also a resource center. There is a large theatre which can sit up to 900, along with a video projection system and a café.

Crous and cultural activities

The Crous provides following cultural opportunities:
  • free year-round cultural events at university residence halls and restaurants;
  • a grant program called «Culture ActionS» that financially subsidizes innovativestudent projects;
  • cultural competitions awarding monetary prizes open to all students: short-story, photography, comic strips, theatre, short film, dance and music.

Student associations & clubs

Méli-Mélo
One such club is Méli-Mélo, which organizes events to develop language and cultural exchanges between French and foreign students. Main activities: ‘linguistic tandems’ (language pairwork), welcome parties, cultural tours.

University of Poitiers Orchestra and Choir

The University of Poitiers Orchestra is composed of 30 to 40 amateur musicians, both staff and students. The Orchestra
participates in the University’s programme of cultural events and gives concerts in
France and abroad for International Relations events.

Radio Pulsar

Pulsar is a campus-based FM radio station, ‘made by young people for young people’. The station, meant as a vehicle for discovery, education and self-improvement, has quickly become the local reference medium for all young people in the Vienne area. Radio-Pulsar also publishes the magazine Bouge, a bimonthly publication with a circulation of 7,000. Its purpose is to inform young people aged between 15 to 30 about news and current affairs that may be relevant and of interest to them.

Cultural activities with the Poitiers City hall

The city of Poitiers boasts numerous cultural facilities: museums, an Art School, the médiathèque (multimedia library), a regional Conservatory, movie theatres and several theatres and auditoriums in the  city centre and the surrounding districts. Students are of course welcome to improve their academic skills, discover the city, or simply relax and enjoy shows at preferential rates. Poit’étrangers
If you are interested in discovering local culture or meeting French families or enjoying a typical lunch/dinner or sharing leisure activities, Poit’Etrangers – a joint scheme involving the City of Poitiers, The University, Crous ,FBS, Sciences Po, ISAEENSMA and CRIJ, will put you in touch with volunteers from Poitiers. Families in Poitiers will be happy to welcome you for Xmas or New Year celebrations; early registration (in October) is compulsory.

Getting around with the ‘Carte Culture’
Students are eligible for a free ‘Carte Culture’, a pass that offers preferential rates on all sorts of cultural events, and  invitations (cinema, concerts, shows) at all the city’s venues. The ‘Carte Culture’ is available at the TAP (Poitiers Theatre), Confort Moderne,  the Conservatory, the Sainte-Croix Museum, the Espace Mendès-France, Jazz à Poitiers (on concert nights), the Amis du Théâtre Populaire (on performance nights) or the Student House.
